Dynamic student activities are the pulsating heart of a university. Nowhere is this more evident than in the annual AIU Festival, now in its 21st year. It brings together the creative spirit of youthful exuberance into a joyous celebration of student life at AIU. Set in Akita’s rich natural environment, the AIU campus comes alive, drawing visitors from the surrounding community and beyond. This last includes AIU’s alumni, who often come from afar to cheer their younger colleagues.
I am grateful to the students who have organized this festival. Their capacity to organize this complex event, with a wide range of activities blending seamlessly into a whole, is truly reflective of both leadership and service. This embodies the spirit of AILA (Applied International Liberal Arts), which is at the core of AIU’s pedagogy. Profound minds, caring hearts and inspired actions are essential ingredients of global leadership, all of which are evident in this festival.
The AIU festival is a celebration at a time when the Tohoku “skies are high and the horses well fed”, reflecting the bounties of the harvest before the winter sets in. Please enjoy the event! I look forward to it just as much as all of you, and to the Organizing Committee, a big “Thank You”.

I am exhilarated to introduce the dawn of a new decade for AIU and warmly welcome everyone to join us in this grand celebration. At AIU, our scholars put in immense passion, hard work, and dedication towards self-improvement and elevating the university’s good reputation. This time, let's zero in on enjoying this festival, a result of our collective efforts and achievements.
As we embark on this new decade, let's focus on embracing new adventures and welcoming more travelers to join us on this remarkable journey that we call AIU. Last year, we ventured into new horizons; this year, let's zero in on the paths we've discovered, sharing our stories and encouraging others to join us.
Let's zero in on the beginning of this new decade at AIU, cherishing the festival with our loved ones and strengthening the bonds between AIU and our community of visitors and supporters.
The 21st AIU Festival Committee
President Yuichi Yamagata
Hello, I appreciate you visiting the 21st AIU Festival today so much. I would like to say a few words for all of our visitors on behalf of the AIU Festival Committee 21st President.
Last year, we had the 20th AIU Festival, celebrating 20-year anniversary of our AIU Festival journey. And we are delighted to be able to continue our journey again this year. The theme for the 21st AIU Festival is “Zero In ~Be in the spotlight~”. The theme means to bring a spotlight on AIU and The AIU Festival, and hoping to develop even more in the future.
As mentioned in the theme, we aim to create a place in the 21st AIU Festival where each and every one of us can be the main character with the spotlight on. Please have a great time at this year’s AIU Festival, where everyone is the main character. Lastly, we would like to thank all of the supporters of the 21st AIU Festival.
